Henry Percy Pickerill

Details

InformationHenry Pickerill qualified in dentistry and medicine in England. In 1907 he came to New Zealand as first Director of the University of Otago's Dental School. From 1917 to 1919 he served with the New Zealand Medical Corps, performing facial reconstruction and plastic surgery at the New Zealand General Hospital at Walton-on-Thames, England, and later at Queen's Hospital Sidcup.

He returned to his former position as Dean of the Dental School, continuing his work with wounded servicemen in Dunedin. He resigned in 1927. He then worked as a plastic surgeon in Sydney for some years, returning to New Zealand in the 1930s, where he worked in Wellington and Lower Hutt. His second wife, Cecily Clarkson, was also a surgeon and they practised together.
